Biking to work

So, today is the first day of my experiment with commuter biking.  So far, so good.  I made it into work this morning with no problems really.  It turns out that Eastern Ave is not a bad route from Columbia Tusculum to downtown.  The right lane comes and goes, so drivers mainly stay in the left lane anyway.  It did get a little tricky once I was downtown.  People in cars get a little scary if you’re between them and their favorite right turn lane.

A few items I still need to get:
Biking gloves – to absorb some of the impact on my baby soft programmer hands
Mirror – I’m going to try one of those helmet mounted ones so I don’t have to turn around too much in heavy traffic
Water bottle cage – water is a must have

Next post:  The Ride Home – where our hero makes his way from downtown back to his humble abode.

i drive to work every day on eastern avenue. there are so many bikers that i’m about to run one of them over one of these days. bikes are NOT cars and should be banned from streets. they go a third of the speed of cars and don’t fit it with the flow of traffic. it’s like having an old lady driving 15 mph next to me. does a bike take up a lane or just the side of a lane? no one can tell, so we drivers just jerk our cars all over the road trying not to flatten you. knock it off!
    love, betsy :)
